3rd International Conference on
Vibration Measurements by Laser Techniques
Advances and Applications

The first two editions of this Conference, held in 1994 and in 1996, were met with great interest within the research community, certainly due to the wider and wider application, witnessed over the last decade, of optical measurement techniques in general and laser-based techniques in particular. Such enormous developments have been made possible thanks to the great improvements in laser technology, optical components, fiber optic production and sensor design, which have offered physicists and engineers the possibility of conceiving and designing new measurement instruments.
The Italian Association of Laser Velocimetry (A.I.VE.LA.) has, as its main purpose, the dissemination of knowledge in all optical techniques for motion measurement.
This Conference, at its third edition, is therefore intended to offer a forum for those involved either in research or application of laser instruments for motion, velocity and vibration measurements on solids, with the purpose of diffusing the knowledge and the use of these techniques and of favouring the development of new systems for laboratory use, field testing or industrial applications.
The scientific committee has promoted a short course on laser vibrometry to be held in conjunction with the conference. The course will be given by leading experts in the field of vibration measurement by laser techniques and experimental sessions will be organized in co-operation with instrument manufacturers. It will offer the opportunity to engineers and researchers of an overview on the basics of these techniques and will permit to further their knowledge and expertise.
Following the favour that the previous editions of the conference met among the research community, we wish that this third edition will meet an increasing interest in these topics.
